And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour."
-William Blake, Auguries of Innocence
In which John Green kicks off the Crash Course Literature mini series with a reasonable set of questions. Why do we read? What’s the point of reading critically? John will argue that reading is about effectively communicating with other people. Unlike a direct communication though, the writer has to communicate with a stranger, through time and space, with only “dry dead words on a page.” So how’s that going to work? Find out with Crash Course Literature! Also, readers are empowered during the open letter, so that’s pretty cool.
Esther Grace Earl (August 3, 1994 - August 25, 2010)
Esther Earl died at the age of sixteen of thyroid cancer and inspired the character Hazel Grace Lancaster in the novel, The Fault in a Stars, which is dedicated to her.
Esther was a great friend to many people in Nerdfighteria and a great friend to me personally, and for a long time she has been a huge part of the life of the nerdfighter community, and our community, in turn, was a huge part of her life.
Esther was an amazing kid. She was astonishingly empathetic, she was really thoughtful, she was very funny. But she wasn’t an angel, or a model of perfection or anything; she was a person, she was a teenager.
And even though Esther has died we will continue to do projects with her because it will be when we work to decrease world-suck and when we show our love for others that Esther will be with us most.

Off to Seattle!
My dearest Tumblr folk,
I am currently arming my Tumblr Queue with interesting things of various sorts from incredible photography from websites to some of my own personal poetry to entertain you as I will most likely not be online for a good week. I’m off to Seattle! The land of Starbucks and grunge music. And much more, of course.
While there, I’ll be searching for an apartment and attending university orientation. So all in all, a grand party in a bottle. I hope to take a good deal of pictures so if you’re curious to see what it all looks like, get excited!
DFTBA & have a wonderful week!
